MS Excel 2007 1½ hrs each - Beginner Class
Saturday, March 23 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
Get a thorough look at our new MS Office software. In this workshop, participants will learn a basic understanding of Excel commands and tools. The workshop will cover Excel vocabulary, shortcuts, menu items, file management, formatting tools, spreadsheet/workbook uses, tables, formulas/functions, conditional formatting, and applications to personal and business use. The course will also briefly demonstrate how to integrate MS Excel with mail applications and MS Word.
Surfing the Internet with Confidence
Saturday, April 20, from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
In this presentation, participants will uncover some of the common threats that affect our internet experience and explore some ways to safeguard against them. Terms like spam, phishing, malware, and anti-virus will be discussed. Other topics will include safeguarding passwords and how to limit access to social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter.
Introduction to PowerPoint 2010
Saturday, May 4 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
This hands-on workshop will take participants through some of the basic tools and commands to prepare professional presentations. Topics covered will include elements of an effective presentation, ribbon navigation, and reviewing tools to build an effective presentation. Participants will build and present a short presentation on a topic of their choice at the end of the workshop.
Beginner Adobe Photoshop
Saturday, May 18, from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
This hands-on workshop is an introductory look at the basic tools and effects often used by this wonderful image editing program. Participants will become familiar with most of the Photoshop tools and commands such as cropping, adding shapes and text, changing image size, the smudge and cloning tools. Participants will also become familiar with some of Photoshop’s imaging effects and use of layers to edit photographs for publishing.
Beginner MS Word 2010 Part 2
Saturday, June 1 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
This is the second part of a hands-on workshop that will explore more MS Word 2010 commands. MS
Word is a popular word processing program that allows users to type and edit text, format text, documents, pages, and other elements. Topics covered will include file management, formatting fonts, documents, and pages. Participants will also learn how to navigate effectively using the ribbon feature, adding and editing images, inserting and formatting tables, and using some of the many effects to enhance Word documents.
Beginner MS Excel 2010 Part 2
Saturday, June 15, from 1 PM to 2:30 PM
This is the second part of a hands-on workshop that will uncover more MS Excel 2010 commands and features. Excel is a popular program often used in the business world to sort numerical data and information. In this workshop, participants will get a refresher on file management and how to navigate around the ribbon. Other topics covered will be formatting text and cells to enhance a worksheet, the use of formulas and functions, conditional formatting, and relative and absolute cell reference.
About Brian Naughton
Brian has an MS in Elementary Education from Fordham University and a BA from Iona College. Comfortable working with both Windows and Apple environments, he developed a passion for using technology during his 18 years working as a teacher and school administrator. He integrated technology throughout his career to enrich and supplement the learning process.
From 1998 – 2004, Brian received a grant from “Computers For Families” which provided every student in the school with a free computer and internet access. During that time, he was also hired by the UC Santa Barbara’s Graduate School of Education to teach computer classes to teachers and administrators. During his summers, he worked as a computer technician for both the school district and for a small software company, Miramar.
With his expertise growing, Brian was given additional job responsibilities such as overseeing the school’s local school network as well as creating and maintaining the school website. He and his family recently returned from a 2-year overseas stay in Qatar where he taught computer applications at a junior college.
